On my way back from Las Vegas it was more than logical to give a chance to the Killers’ new album – Day & Age. And I have to admit that single Human has really grown on me. And then I caught myself wondering are we human, or are we dancer.
Various blogs and forums are desperately trying to figure out what Hunter S. Thompson actually meant by a disparaging comment he made in an (never identified which one) interview where he said that America is raising a generation of dancers. Summing up the assumptions I found on the web basic distinction between human and dancer looks like this:
- Grammatical incorrectness – Dancer is in singular
- Denser might be instead of Dancer
- Exclusive disjunction – or – between Human and Dancer
- Dancer is slipping into pointless and overindulgent partying
- Dancer = puppet on strings = brainless
- Human – sexual. Dancer – asexual
- Human under control (not free). Dancer free. (Sartre’s concept of freedom)
Why do we (human & dancer) have to find a sense even when/where it might not exist. If the great creator of Gonzo journalism really said what Brandon Flowers claims he did, why does it have to make sense. Why don’t we just leave something to be pointless itself and enjoys in its own absurdity. David Bowie concluded that we’re under pressure that burns a building down, splits a family in two, and puts people on streets. Maybe this is our last dance.
