Venerators of icons aka iconophiles or iconolaters were crafty people opting not for God itself but only its simulation in the image called icon. They were, thus, spreading disbelief which led to a final formula:
God → Icon → Disappearance (not death) of God in every icon
If we transmitted this formula to a real life, we would get this:
Real life → Reality Show → Artificial Reality (because of our disappearance)
Explanation:
In the world overstocked by sex in its multiple variations, from woman’s leg in detergent commercial to sublime messages in lovable movies made in Mickey Mouse enterprise, One is bored. Terrified with a new-come nothing-to-do + nothing-to-say condition, the One is slipping into a voyeurism. True pornography comes up. TV commences televisionation epoch, making a belligerent takeover of society. Thus, there’s a surprisingly unique voluntary servitude of bewitched victims. Reality show is our reality, there’s no other more real reality than the one in the show. Making and enjoying a travesty of life, One cuts all strings from the reality while jumping into the screen. In there, it looks like Thomas More’s Utopia. Or even better – like Truman show without dystopia moments in the end.
It’s amazing how Orwell’s 1984, along with Warhol’s Chelsea girls, has predestinated creating of fabricated world where everything is set up only to grab the audience. Speaking of communication theory, Katz and Lazarsfeld’s “two-step flow” concept of media influence is slightly simplified. One-step flow obtrudes itself as a dominant one.
Perceiving the world as a reality show is considered severe mental disease among some American psychiatrists. There were some cases when people were desperately trying to escape from the show (they believed their life is a show) and have been doing silly things in that purpose. Obviously, the psychiatrists are not aware yet that minority is made of few actors and the huge rest (along with them) consists of mostly unconscious participants in the same show.
